Stuff-A-Bus Food Drive 10th Annual Day of Stuffing Planned for Nov. 17
On Friday, November 17, the 10th annual “Day of Stuffing” will be held at the Kroger store located at 801 W. Lake Ave. in Peoria. Part of the Stuff-A-Bus food drive, this event is held to encourage a boost in donations for the 36th annual campaign that benefits the food pantry at the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service.
The public is asked to bring donations or purchase non-perishable food items at Kroger and place the items on the classic 1975 CityLink bus. Several area businesses and organizations that have hosted food drives at their offices to benefit Stuff-A-Bus are invited to drop off their donations that day.
Representatives from CityLink, the Peoria Friendship House, the Amalgamated Transit Union #416 and other volunteers will be at the store beginning at 7:00 a.m. and continuing throughout the day until 1:00 p.m., accepting food donations. Donated items will be loaded onto the classic GP Transit (CityLink) bus in hopes of making a significant contribution to this year’s goal to reach a new record and collect 13 tons of food.
Here’s how people can help fill the bus:
- Shoppers can select other non-perishable items to purchase as they shop. Suggested items include:
- Baby Food; Canned Meats; Tuna; Soups & Stews; Beans; Cereals; Macaroni & Cheese; Peanut Butter; Canned Vegetables & Fruits; Whole Grain Rice or Pasta
- Cash donations will also be accepted for the purchase of non-perishable food to load onto the bus.
WMBD will broadcast live from the Kroger store during the day’s newscasts. Updates on the event will be provided throughout the day on the Peoria Cumulus radio stations (97.3 River Country, 105.7 the X Rocks, 95.5 GLO and Z 92.3 Peoria’s Hits) and on the official Stuff-A-Bus Facebook page. 105.7 the X Rocks will broadcast live from the event between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and 97.3 River Country will broadcast live from the event between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
The Peoria Chiefs’ mascot, Homer, will make an appearance from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Peoria Mustangs players will also be volunteering their time by handing out shopping lists and encouraging shoppers to donate at the event.
