CityLink to Re-Evaluate Proposed North Side Transfer Zone Site Location

The Greater Peoria Mass Transit District (CityLink) has made the decision to re-evaluate the proposed location at 4310 N. Brandywine Drive for the North Side Transfer Zone facility site.  CityLink, in conjunction with the consulting firm TranSystems, held a public meeting on December 5 at First Federated Church’s Life Together Center to provide information on the proposed site.  Residents of that area in attendance expressed their concerns over the facility being located near a residential neighborhood, which was a factor in prompting CityLink to re-evaluation this location.

“This site was initially selected due largely in part to location, availability and access to designated CityLink routes.  We have been in the process of researching and selecting a potential site for a transfer facility in the north side of Peoria since 2013,” said Doug Roelfs, CityLink General Manager.  “The results of the environmental study conducted revealed that the location at 4310 N. Brandywine Drive met the criteria required to successfully accommodate up to an eight-bay transfer facility.  However, we have listened to concerns voiced by the residents of that area and have decided to expand our search of the site for the North Side Transfer Zone to a more commercial area that will best fit the needs of our passengers,” continued Roelfs.

CityLink plans to continue searching for new potential locations, and to revisit locations that were dismissed earlier in the North Side Transfer Zone study process.  Plans are also in place to be more proactive informing the public on what the goal of the North Side Transfer Zone is, and to continue educating residents on the positive economic and environmental impact public transportation provides to the Greater Peoria area on a daily basis.
