At the regularly scheduled meeting of The Greater Peoria Mass Transit Board of Trustees, on Monday, March 10, 2008, free rides for seniors was approved. Beginning Monday, March 17, 2008, CityLink will offer free rides to seniors 65 or older on all fixed routes. State ID (Driver’s License, etc) is sufficient for proof of age. This will apply to all routes currently operated by CityLink. This does not include any CityLift paratransit route.
This service is mandated by Public Act 095-0708 (in part)
“Sec. 8.6. Not withstanding any law to the contrary, no later than 60 days following the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General Assembly, any fixed route public transportation services provided by, or under grant or purchase of service contracts of, every District shall be provided without charge to all senior citizens of the District aged 65 and older, under such conditions as prescribed by the District.”
